CAR-T therapy in China: 10 approved products and what they cost

China's drug regulator (NMPA) has approved 10 CAR-T cell therapies, most of them developed in China and not available in the US — including the world's first CAR-T for a solid tumor (gastric cancer), approved in June 2026.[1][2] Published prices in China range from about ¥990,000 to ¥1,290,000 per dose (about $147,982–$192,825).[3][2]

Talk to your own doctor first. CAR-T and the drugs below are for specific cancers at specific stages, have serious possible side effects, and need close follow-up. Whether any of them fits you can only be decided by specialists who see your records. This page lists approvals and prices; it does not say how well any treatment works for you.

The drug price is only part of the bill: hospital stay, cell collection, conditioning chemotherapy and monitoring are extra in both countries. In China, city "Huimin Bao" insurance and a 2025 commercial insurance drug list cover some CAR-T products[3] — but these schemes are for people insured in China. Foreign patients should expect to pay the full price unless their own international insurer agrees to cover it.

How long you need to stay

  1. Assessment at the hospital: records, scans, and tests for the target (for example Claudin18.2 for gastric cancer).
  2. Cell collection (apheresis).
  3. Manufacturing: current autologous CAR-T products take about 2–3 weeks to make.[4]
  4. Infusion and close monitoring in or near the hospital.

Plan for more than 30 days in total. Citizens of many countries can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days, but that may not cover the whole treatment. Medical treatment is not among the purposes officially listed for visa-free entry or 240-hour transit. If you are travelling mainly for planned treatment, ask a Chinese embassy or visa center which visa to apply for before you book. Check your visa options.

Where it is given

CAR-T is given at certified hospital centers. Ask the international department of any hospital whether it offers the specific product you are asking about.
